Vocal Coach
Mr. Housner has maintained a balanced schedule with a combination of opera assembling, music direction, vocal coaching and extensive concertizing.
Mr. Housner has resided on the coaching staff at the Academy of Vocal Arts for more than 25 years. Mr. Housner has served as music director, principal coach and performance pianist for numerous recitals as well as ten fully staged productions as part of past Academy of Vocal Arts seasons. Repertoire has included Barber’s Vanessa, Debussy's Pelleas et Mélisande, Dvořák’s Rusalka, Janácek's Kát’a Kabanová, Massenet’s Werther, Strauss’s Arabella, Capriccio, Elektra and Wagner's Das Rheingold (twice). From 2021-2023, Mr. Housner was a member of the faculty at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University as an Artist Teacher of Opera Coaching.
For the past sixteen consecutive summers, Mr. Housner has musically directed and performed complete operatic works of Mozart, Humperdinck, Dvorak and Wagner in coaching-intensive opera workshops (LAHSOW) held in Philadelphia, PA, Houston and Austin, TX, Vancouver and Victoria, BC, Portland, OR, Toronto, ON, Bloomington, IN and Minneapolis, MN. Elsewhere, Mr. Housner has served as assistant conductor and vocal coach at the Central City Opera Festival, Portland Opera, Utah Opera Festival, Astoria Music Festival, Lyric Opera Studio Weimar, Brevard Music Festival and at the Hong Kong's Academy of Performing Arts.
